Moorgate Project

Building Construction Partnership Ltd complete on new home for Rotherham Health Care in project funded by RBS

Yorkshire based construction company Building Construction Partnership Ltd (“BCP”) recently completed a new 60 bedroom nursing home for Rotherham Health Care at Moorgate, in a project that has been financed through The Royal Bank of Scotland (“RBS”).
BCP are a national construction company who provide a wide range of quality building and associated construction services to a varied client base within the healthcare and commercial sectors, including residential care home development and nursing home construction. The company have previously completed the build of 30 specialist nursing and residential care homes including Rotherham. The company currently have a further two schemes under construction with four schemes at an advanced design stage. They undertake projects nationwide.

The Moorgate scheme is in keeping with the high quality bespoke design the company has employed on previous constructions which is based upon the partnership approach they adopt with all clients.
RBS have provided support to a number of the building projects undertaken by BCP in the past and have in this case provided funding through their specialist healthcare team to support the land purchase and construction phase of the Moorgate project.

Talking about the Rotherham project and the prospects he sees for the company, Brian Bullock, Managing Director of BCP said:
“We are delighted that this bespoke project was finished on time and on budget against the backdrop of market conditions which has generally been tough for operators in the construction market. With an established background in designing, constructing and delivering buildings for the care and nursing home segments, we have picked up a number of contracts for projects in a sector which whilst no means immune to market conditions does benefit from the shifting demographics within the UK which is creating continued demand for good quality homes that represent both quality and value for money that clients require to take advantage of demand within the care market.”

John Gell Manager, Business & Commercial Banking at RBS who provides relationship management support to the company adds:
“BCP have developed a good reputation across the care home and nursing home segment for the quality of their work. My colleagues Paul Turner and Brian Morton from our specialist healthcare team have provided a bespoke funding package to support the Rotherham project which once completed will be a strong addition to their portfolio of builds.

Rushcliffe Care Project

Official Opening for Building Construction Partnership Project

National design, development and build company; Building Construction Partnership, once again celebrated the early completion of a large project on behalf of Rushcliffe Care Ltd.

The successful project; a refurbishment of Normanton View and Village View Care Homes in Derby along with the construction of a new link block to form one new 80 bedroom nursing home for Rushcliffe Care Ltd was officially opened by the Right Honourable Margaret Beckett, Member of Parliament for Derby South and Minister of State for Housing and Planning.

Glyn Munday of David Ward Associates, York, a leading architects practice specialising in the design of nursing and care homes throughout the country, provided the design and managed the build

The home was refurbished in two phases providing minimum disturbance whilst maintaining maximum residency.  Careful planning was required to ensure continued access to facilities. Security of the residents was paramount and maintaining fire alarm, nurse call, heating and water at all times required careful planning as the system was renewed

Mike Allsopp represented Rushcliffe Care, one of the largest independent healthcare groups in the UK now operating around 1000 beds and employing more than 1250 staff.  Mike worked closely with Building Construction Partnership to ensure residents were not disturbed by the building works and brought a certain amount of humour to the team

Mike stated, “This was an interesting and valuable joint venture in both renovation and continued ‘business as usual’ for all the staff at Normanton and Village View. We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to BCP and DWA for the effort that they have made to bring about this major improvement of facilities for our residents”.

Once again in line with many previous projects completed by Building Construction Partnership, the refurbishment and construction were finalised ahead of schedule.

Brian Bullock, Managing Director of BCP, thanked Mike Allsopp and Glyn Munday for making prompt decisions, providing strong communication and offering regular information. As a professional trio working together; the results were continual programme improvement with high quality standards being maintained.

Brian Bullock would like to thank Rushcliffe Care Group’s Chief Executive Mr Rai, for entrusting BCP with this sensitive project; Mike Allsopp of Rushcliffe Care for working so close with the building team to ensure deadlines were met and Glyn Munday of David Ward Associates for leading the design.

NIBE Goes to Ground for Sussex Healthcare Unit

A brand new secure mental health unit has just been completed in East Sussex to accommodate 45 patients.

The design team and client worked closely to provide a state of the art, low energy, 45 bedroom medium secure mental health unit, bringing together computer controlled low energy lighting, ground heat pumps and solar energy panels all controlled and integrated by sophisticated heating controls.

The unit was constructed by Building Construction Partnership Ltd, a national construction company which provides a wide range of quality building construction services to a varied client base in healthcare.

With an eye to the future – in terms of both energy costs and environmental considerations – the authority opted for a system utilising the heat always present at a more or less constant temperature in the ‘near-surface geothermal layer’ underground.

In a system designed by NIBE Energy Systems Ltd. of Chesterfield and working in close cooperation with BCP, twelve boreholes 110 metres deep were drilled into the exercise yard before landscaping. Each borehole contains a plastic tube in an elongated u-shape, within which circulates a glycol/water mixture in a closed circuit, working in rather the same manner as a car’s cooling system.

Energy from the warm ground is absorbed in the mixture and translated to two inter-connected NIBE Fighter 1330 Heat Pumps situated in the building’s boiler/utilities room. These, with a capacity of 30kW, convert the latent energy into heat for the water in a fully insulated tank situated near the Fighter units. This in turn feeds the entire under-floor central heating system and passive cooling in the summer. Back-up heating, if required to act as a boost in times of maximum peak usage, is supplied by a gas boiler and solar panels.

While the design and installation of the unit’s geothermal heating was undertaken by NIBE Energy Systems in UK, the equipment used was designed and manufactured by parent company NIBE AB in Sweden, a country where renewable energy systems of many types have been in general use for decades. Patients and staff at the new Sussex Healthcare Unit can have the warm feeling that comes not only from efficient under-floor heating but also from the satisfaction of using an energy efficient system that is as green as the grass growing over the boreholes that fuel it.

Building on a Firm Foundation

Main contractors BCP (Building Construction Partnership) have once again called upon their long term experience and expertise in the industry to beat the barriers that can often pronounce themselves at the onset of any building project.

Starting work on the recent Parkside ‘design and build’ project, a contaminated site and difficult land conditions called for a ground remediation strategy and specialist foundation design.

Proudly handing over the keys of the 1.5 million care home in Tipton, Birmingham earlier this year, to their client; Parkside Healthcare, Lee Brough, Commercial Director of BCP stated “Inspite of these initial problems, once again we handed over a quality built care home within the specified time, to the agreed budget and, as an additional bonus we can pride ourselves for taking on board the benefits of using local services and suppliers as appropriate.

Parkside care home has 20 bedrooms, all designed above normal standards, for people with special needs, some rooms exceeding 27m2.  Built close to the adjoining highway, the design team cleverly included a private rear landscaped garden with paved access to a feature gazebo

A Positive Future
Brian Bullock, the Managing Director of Building Construction Partnership stated “BCP have a firm and solid foundation in the care industry with a total of 30 years joint health care experience. BCP prides itself in a history of strong corporate values and understands the need for communication and consideration with all parties involved. We have for many years enjoyed a strong organic growth based on our high standard of service reputation and constant completion to time, to cost and to customer satisfaction. We thank our clients for their recommendations and repeat business, so important in the care industry where trust is an invaluable key!

We are now building upon this firm foundation and reputation together with a recently introduced re-brand and marketing campaign to further enthuse and excite both our current and potential clients. Our message is clear and concise “BCP offers a quality of care construction second to none.
“With a freshly inspired, motivated and challenged team of directors and employees at BCP we can only succeed in our goal and vision for the future; Building Construction Partnership – the flagship for health care construction”

Inspiration for Challenge and Change

Main contractors BCP (Building Construction Partnership) have once again been commended for their standards of work by a long-standing client, Exemplar Healthcare.

The recent project: the construction of a brand new care home in Immingham Humberside, designed for people with neurological conditions was completed to time despite of adverse weather conditions in October 2007.

Julie Quarrington of Exemplar stated “Our first project carried out by BCP in 2001 started the growth of a strong relationship based on their continual high standard of work with a responsibility of managing the project within an agreed time scale and cost. We therefore had no hesitation in approaching BCP for the Immingham project at the onset. We were looking to establish our new building in a ‘fresh’ area of North Lincolnshire and again, BCP had the competitive edge.
We are extremely proud of Immingham and the facilities we can now offer our clients through this development. Within the two-storey building there are 40 en-suite bedrooms, all over 16 sq metres, (well exceeding the 12 square metre standard). Each bedroom is equipped with internet broadband, a phone line, TV point and a nurse call system. The building is divided into four units each incorporating a TV and music lounge, a ‘quiet area’ dining room and nurses’ station.

A Unique Understanding.
Speaking to Brian Bullock of BCP, he thanked Julie for their repeated accolade and trust in the Company. “We have a great working partnership with Exemplar and share a joint understanding of the specialised and sensitive approach required in the healthcare sector”.

A Brief Introduction
BCP is a highly acclaimed national construction company which provides a wide range of quality building and associated construction services to a varied client base.
The company embraces a partnership approach with their clients to ensure a positive and informative relationship. “We see each project, no matter what size, whether traditional or innovative as a challenge for us to rise to.  Our goal is to ensure our clients are handed over a project of an extremely high standard and finished to our level of excellence”

An Organic ~Growth
BCP set up in 2001 has achieved a high reputation in the health care industry construction due to the satisfaction of clients who in turn offer regular repeat business.  This is in strong evidence with Exemplar as having previously completed 11 new build projects with another 6 homes due over the next 2 years. However, BCP believe no business can sit ‘steady’ expecting constant business. BCP recognise in this time of strong competition an increase in profile and awareness is vital for continued growth.

A Dynamic Decision.
Through a recent marketing campaign, BCP believe they are building an even more positive future for BCP, its clients and employees.
With an initial re-brand presenting a stronger image, plus a fierce advertising campaign they believe they can offer a clear and concise message to the health care industry. “BCP offer a quality of care construction second to none. We will deliver to you our valuable client a project completed to time or sooner, within the agreed cost, with responsible and reliable management and a supportive and informative partnership. Our vision is for BCP to be the flagship for health care construction”. Brian Bullock. Managing Director.

BCP Completes Tight Project One Month Ahead of Schedule

National Care Sector development, design and construction specialist; Building Construction Partnership once again delivered their promise to their clients of project completion to time, to budget and to total satisfaction with the handover of Kavanagh Place, Liverpool 4 weeks ahead of schedule.

Kavangh Place, a 40 bedroom care home designed and built for a national care provider  was constructed on the site of an existing 1960’s nursing home.  Precise planning involved the use of a self erecting tower crane for material handling.  The efficiency of this modern piece of equipment offset the double handling of material costs. The traditionally built nursing home has a total floor area of 2345m2 enclosing 40 bedrooms all with off site designed and built ensuite wet rooms.  Each of the 4 individual wings has their own dining and kitchen facilities, two lounges, quite room and sensory bathroom. Kavangh Place, close to Goodison Park, is built on the corner of a busy intersection and has been designed to incorporate a large central courtyard and private outdoor space.
