New Care Home Build started in Kingston-upon-Thames

This week, work we started construction on a brand new 67-bedroom care home near the centre of Kingston-upon-Thames.

The 2 and 3-storey nursing home build will be built on existing land on Combe Lane West. Planning permission has been granted by The Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames and the site has already been cleared.

The new care home will have 67 bedrooms (care-suites), each with its own self-contained bathroom facilities. There would also be a variety of communal facilities on each floor, including a residents lounge and hairdressers. Ample parking for staff and guests will be provided at the front of the new building.

The carefully considered frontage has been designed to blend in with the current surrounding housing, with the building designed to look like 2 large fronted homes, with an unobtrusive atrium set back between the 2.

The project is set to meet a BREEAM excellent target.

Another interesting consideration of this project is The Hampton Court Conduit System that runs through the site. This is a 300-year-old, 3.4-mile water system called Combe Conduit, that fed water to Hampton Court Palace. The system was engineered with a fall of 129 feet over a length of about 3 miles, creating a water pressure adequate to supply running water to rooms on the second floor of the palace. Due to its heritage status, all work around the conduit will be monitored and managed in association with English Heritage to ensure no damage occurs.
